Too much on my plate???
Two weeks into the new year and is my plate full.
You have school which in and of itself, will be tricky to handle later in the quarter, but here in the early portion is ok. This quarter I'm taking Inter-cultural Communications online (all I have to do in this class is write 2 papers of 3-4 pages each and three posts in the weekly discussion posts...that reminds me, I should go look and see how many I have this week). I also have Technical & Report writing in which I have to basically write a different letter each week. Then I have Legal environment of Domestic and International business... Business Law. I love the teacher in this class, he has us talk about law cases and present as if we are lawyers in the case, also if we take notes in the class, we are in trouble. Then I have Finite Math, which I really don't understand why I have to take this class, as I've already passed Statistics and this class is more along the lines of algebra...who knows. Then we have my "easy" class, the school newspaper. Sounds easy, and most of the time it is, but you try getting one article done (which for me usually turns into more like three or four) and all of your homework before noon on Sunday, when the games sometimes don't happen until 7p on Saturday.
Then you have San Diego State hockey. For those that read this and don't know I'm the media relations contact for the club team. I put out a weekly press release every week during the season. I'm also the announcer, and have been given the responsibilities if not the title of General Manager for the team. You have to start somewhere, right?
Then I have my job here at school working in the Athletic department. It doesn't sound hard, but when you have to juggle running the scoreboard for the swim meets, the water polo matches, and hopefully working with the baseball team it can get pretty hectic.
And now I'm also helping out the CSUB Dugout club. That is the parents and supporters for the baseball team. So far all I've had to do for them is create a Facebook profile, and take some pictures. But now they are looking at possibly asking me to keep a blog for them (I have a hard enough time keeping my own blog here up to date!).
So I ask you my fateful followers, do I have enough on my plate or should I try and add something else?

2 oops in one year....not a good second half of the year
So, how is everyone?
I apologize for not checking in sooner. It has been the entire Fall quarter since I checked in with everyone... (Why didn't you say anything there Jess?) Since finals start tomorrow, I can say took when referring to my classes. I took Financial Management (teacher had a very heavy Middle Eastern accent, and many others in addition to myself, had a very hard time understanding him), Organizational Management, Mass Media & Society, and the school newspaper.
Funny thing in the newspaper class, the first week of the quarter I was assigned a story on the Athletic Director retiring. One of the people I figured should have been in the article was the President of the school, so I went and made an appointment to interview him for the story. I got the interview three days later, and got him into the article. I go in on the following Monday and have the following conversation,
Editors: How did you interview Mitchell (the school President)?
Me: I made an appointment and got in there, why?
Editors: It took us 4 months to get an interview with him last year.
Me: Did you go back and follow up on the interview request?
Editors: Yeah.
Me: With his secretary?
Editors: Yeah, 4 months after we initially asked.
Me: Well, you should have done it two days later, that is what I did.
After that conversation, the Editor in Chief said "You are my ace in the hole." I eventually went on, and I believe I'm the only person in the class to have at least one article in every single issue. To the best of my knowledge, the only other "sports writer" got 2 stories in 9 issues.
Well, as you can see it is late, and I need to get to bed.
I'll try and remember to get updates in more often.

Ooops
Well, I see it has been since Dec. that I haven't updated the blog. Sorry. Been kinda busy with this thing called School.
I was looking and noticed that I had stated in previous posts that I would never do Twitter...Never say never. As I have officially joined the Twitter nation, and tweet pretty much every game that I go to. (twitter.com/CDinSV)
I survived the entire Winter quarter here at CSUB. I took Organizational Behavior (B-), Sports Law (B), and Sports Marketing (B). Quarter GPA - 2.90, missed a 3.0 by that much |_|.
For those that care, I'm taking Marketing, Event & Facility Management (my final Sports Marketing class), and MIS.

The 2009 Poinsettia Bowl
So, it has been awhile since I've posted, so I'll make up for that tonight as I blog from the 2009 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. This years edition features the #23 ranked Utah Utes (9-3) out of the Mountain West Conference and the University of California Golden Bears (8-4) out of the Pacific 10 Conference.
Those who know me might think I'm going to do a straight normal recap, and blog about these two teams....maybe you need to know a little more about these two fine teams.
Utah - The Utah Utes come in as I have already mentioned 9-3 and they finished 6-2 in the MWC. Utah according to their fine game notes have the nations longest active bowl winning streak and it stands at eight games (last bowl loss was against Wisconsin in the 1996 Copper Bowl). The Utes are on a nice stretch of games as they have won 23 of their last 26 games and 30 of its last 34.
University of California - Berkley -- More commonly referred to as "Cal". Comes into the game off a loss to Washington in the final regular season game, and it was a butt kicking as they lost 42-10. Cal doesn't have any game notes, so I can't really tell you much.
Head to Head -- Kyle Wittingham for Utah has never faced Cal. Jeff Tedford on Cal's sideline is 0-1 against the boys from Salt Lake City.
Conferences - Mountain West "Above the rest"...Pacific 10 "Conference of Champions". I think I'm going to have to go with the Pac 10 on which has a better tag line.
