Basketball and videos

 Well, talk about a day!

First on the docket was running the Instant Replay for the USD Toreros Women's Basketball game against Pepperdine at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.  Game time was two in the afternoon.  I got to the arena at 11:30.

Most people are reading this and wondering, why so early?  Well there is two reasons for being there two and a half hours early.  One, I haven't done this position in about a year.  Two, I did a little example video on how everything works.  That will be compiled with the other mini videos that I'm making for all the positions at the table and will compile them all into one video and then post it.

The game went very smoothly.  When USD wins by 25 points that helps.  Also, when the referees only come over one time for a clarification and no real reviews, it is a good game!

I also found out that I'll be working the scoreboard on Monday for Women's Volleyball (I promise to keep all comments to myself!).  The comment in parenthesis is an inside joke that a couple of people know about.  Also, the good ladies in the SID office must really trust me with stats, as they have asked me to come learn/do the stats for Women's soccer this coming Friday.  Of course in 2021, I won't be counting goals until there actually is a game.  In this time, a game on the schedule is just a suggestion.

After the game, I walked around the main portion of USD and asked folks the opening question on San Diego Street Talk.  Which is "what would be the worst movie sequel ever made, and why?"  I interviewed 12 folks.  The final video is coming in around the six and a half minute mark.

Alright, I'm going to head to bed now so that I can get up and enjoy Super Bowl LV.  My pick? The over (more than 56.5 combined points)!

What a wild & crazy ride

Welcome to todays episode of The Bog. In this episode, I'll write about stuff that I found intersting surrounding the Aztecs women's basketball team taking on the 2/2 Conneticut women's Huskeys.

The whole crazy ride began on Tuesday after the Navy game (which I discussed in bog version 1.004).

Wednesday, SDSU had the weekly press conference to go over all the basketball games this weekend (both men's & women's). Beth Burns (HC), Temeka Ledford, & Shanna Demus were the designated coach & players to talk to the media (3 cameras, 2 newspaper, & me). When the SDSU media realations department took questions and put them on the website for the quotes from the conference, they chose three questions that I asked (woohoo!!!!!!!).

Thursday was a special luncheon at the Hall of Champions with Geno Auriemma, Charde Houston (player on UConn from San Diego), Beth Burns, & Paris Johnson (teammate of Houston's in HS). During the question & answer portion of the luncheon Beth quoted a question that I asked during the weekly conference (another first for me).

Friday was the big day, I was able to go and watch about the first 10 minutes of the game. All of the hoopla, talk, pre-concieved notions were correct. When looking at the team from UConn, they are not all that tall (I was taller than all but 2 of the players), they were not shooting well during the pre-game warm ups, but let me tell you something. Once that ball went up for the tip-off all bets were off. UConn were really playing sloppy compared to what I've seen them play on TV, but even playing sloppy (for them) they scored 49 in the opening half.
"At halftime we talked about the fact that we scored 49 points in the first half and I do not know if we executed anything other then our fast break. I thought (SDSU) made it really hard for us and they wanted to speed up the game. It was an unusual game, it did not seem like we were up by as many points as we were." - Geno Auriemma
If I was the SDSU Aztecs I would take that as a compliment as they were able to get "the mighty UConn train" off thier track.

So now the Aztecs start looking to improve as they have a couple of days to "lick thier wounds" before the Surf 'n Slam begins on the 28th. From what I saw, and have seen so far this season, the entire MWC is in for a real wakeup call as the Aztecs were the preseason pick to finish 7th in a conference of 9. The Aztecs I believe will finish in the top 5 (top half) and it wouldn't surprize me if they get into a post-season tournament.

As far as humor in this episode, lets look at the news of the weird.........

Courtesy of the folks at the Portland Press Herald
In November the Food and Drug Administration told Smiling Hill Farm of Westbrook, Maine, that it would have to recall all of its egg nog because it did not list "egg" as an ingredient on the label. Federal law requires the listing to protect people with egg allergies from inadvertently consuming foods that they might not have realized contain egg (even products called "egg nog").
Now let me see if I got this right....if someone is allergic to EGG, and they are drinking EGGnog, I think the term DUH comes to mind. What the hell are these people thiking, "oh gee, I'm allergic to egg, but I don't see egg in the ingredients of eggnog, I guess there isn't any egg in there." These are the some people that the makers of everything have to put directions on products. Or to put it another way, it probably are the idiots that sue say McDonald's because they spilled coffee on themselves and gee, it is hot, DUH!!!!!!!!

That is going to do it for bog episode 1.005, if I don't bog before, MERRY CHRISTMAS (please notice that I'm not afraid to say Merry Christmas, if the PC police are out there, you can find me in Las Vegas for Christmas, I'll be staying at the Riviera!).
